Belize City, Belize, June 12, 2025 (PAHO) – Through funding support from the Universal Health Coverage Partnership (UHCP), the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW), has launched a two-day National Health Datathon to advance Belize’s digital health agenda and strengthen its health information systems.
This milestone event brings together MoHW staff, IT experts, epidemiologists, surveillance officers, and partners from across sectors to collaboratively map and analyze existing data assets, identify gaps, and propose interoperable solutions. Through hands-on group work, the participants will work together to develop proposals to enhance data governance, surveillance, and decision-making.
Aligned with Belize’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Datathon directly supports key frameworks, including PAHO’s Roadmap for the Digital Transformation, the 2024-2030 Plan of Action for Health Information Systems, and Belize’s Country Cooperation Strategy 2023-2027.
Beyond the event, efforts will focus on institutionalizing a national interoperability framework and strengthening digital governance for long-term impact. By fostering equity, transparency, and innovation, PAHO/WHO Belize and the MoHW reaffirm their commitment to building a resilient, data-driven health system for all.
